Think 20

The Think 20 (T20) brings together leading think tanks and research centers from around the world, with the aim of contributing, through research and policy proposals, to the G20 Leaders’ reflections on the big issues related to global governance. The National Coordinator and Chair of the G20 Italy T20 is the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI). The Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) is its T20 co-Chair, and the Bocconi University is the co-Chair of the T20 Summit.

Women 20

Established in 2015, the Women 20 aims to ensure due consideration to gender issues within the G20 discussions, foster gender equality and promote women’s empowerment. The 2021 edition of the W20 will be chaired by Linda Laura Sabbadini.   Download the Communiqué   GO TO ENGAGEMENT GROUP WEBSITE

Youth20

The Y20 is aimed at enabling young people to express their visions and ideas to the Heads of State and Government of the G20. It is an inclusive discussion platform, from which a series of agreed recommendations related to the G20 agenda are compiled into a joint comuniqué. This is then delivered to the Presidency and shared with the other Leaders. The 2021 Y20 is chaired by the Young Ambassadors Society, the association in charge of the G7/G20 Youth Summits for Italy.

Labour 20

The L20 convenes trade union leaders from the G20 countries, in representation of millions of workers worldwide. It contributes to the work of the G20 with analyses and policy recommendations aimed at improving labour-related issues. Labour unions began to meet with Heads of State informally during the first G20 Summit in 2008, in the wake of the global financial crisis. The L20 was formally established in 2011. Under the Italian Presidency, the L20 will be co-chaired by the three Italian trade union confederations: CGIL, CISL and UIL.

Urban 20

The Urban 20 (U20) was launched by the Mayor of Buenos Aires in 2017, during the Argentinian G20 Presidency. Made up of 25 cities from within the G20 countries, the U20 aims to feed the perspective and the priorities of cities into the broader G20 process, with specific focus on issues such as global development, climate, the future of work, social inclusion and integration. Each year, the U20 recommendations are shared with the G20 Leaders. The U20 initiative is co-convened by C40 Cities and United Cities and Local Governments. Rome and Milan are the co-Chairs of the Italian G20 U20 and will co-host the annual Mayors’ Summit.

Civil 20

The “Civil Society 20” Engagement Group (C20) is an open community, channeling the voice of civil society around the world into the G20 process since 2013. It provides a platform to bring forth proposals and demands stemming from civil society, with particular emphasis on the environment, sustainable development, gender equality, human rights and social, economic and climate justice. The C20 2021 process is managed by a broad coalition of Italian civil society organizations, under the coordination of GCAP Italy (Global Call to Action against Poverty).   Download the Communiqué   GO TO ENGAGEMENT GROUP WEBSITE

Science 20

The Science 20 (S20) brings together the Academies of Science of the G20. The Social Science and Humanities 20 (SSH20) does the same for the G20 Academies of Social Sciences and Humanities. Both will be hosted in 2021 by the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. This year’s theme for the S20 is “Preparing for pandemics”, and will address the preparedness of the scientific community, the identification of the most promising research programs and possible policy options Governments could adopt to support them. The SSH20 will turn its attention to the concept of Crises, and their wide-ranging impacts on our societies, from economic, societal, legal, cultural perspectives and beyond. Their recommendations will be submitted to the G20 Leaders.
